A Dark, Cold shadow
06 June 2016 | June 2016
I went to a small fair in Steubenville, Ohio. The main street into town has an underpass that goes underneath train tracks. There are a number of stores located in the underpass. The fair was located directly beside the underpass. We had walked about a half mile to the fair and were returning to our cars. It was about 11pm. When we reached the underpass heading away from town, my friend J asked me and his girlfriend to wait for him while he went up the hill to the tracks to relieve himself. The other people in our party had kept on walking and were almost out of sight. As J’s girlfriend and I waited on the sidewalk for him, we heard him actually scream. He came running down the

Camping Out
03 June 2016 | June 2016
Many years ago, I was hitch hiking with my best friend at the time through northern France and Belgium. We were traveling light with just a small tent and sleeping bags and so in back packs. As often happens when hitch hiking, sometimes lifts were plentiful and then other times none existent meaning that you had to trudge along the road side until late into the night to reach your planned destination. Sometimes, you simply didn’t make it at all and had to find a place to camp in a field by the side of the road. One evening, that was entirely the case. Despite it having been a nice sunny day, we had no luck obtaining a ride and by about 7pm it was becoming obvious that we wouldn’t

Come Fishing?
02 June 2016 | June 2016
It started in 1986 when we moved to Texas. Rather than flying, my husband thought it would be nice to drive since I had never seen that part of the country. My husband had made this trip several times to see family in Gainvesville. He always went the same route when he visited but this time he decided to try something new. It was, apparently, a more scenic way to get to our destination. We were just on the Texan border when my husband realized that we were running low on gas and we had not seen a gas station for some time. The road we were traveling was deserted with not even a house in sight. I remember that there was a deep curve in the road, and that

Second Sight?
01 June 2016 | June 2016
About fifteen years ago, when my grandson was three years old, he, my daughter, and I were looking for my father’s grave marker in the cemetery. The grave was just a marker without a headstone. My grandson ran over to one side of the graveyard and said, “This is it” as he was brushing grass and dirt away from the marker. It was not my father’s marker, but that of a person who had died in the late 1800’s. As my grandson was pointing at the area he said, “Those people died… got their head broke.” Later, I received a letter telling me that a close friend had died. Our little grandson came over and put his hand on my leg, “Grammy, she died.” I said yes, but did not

Cracked
31 May 2016 | May 2016
Reflections of past events in life, which were experienced in childhood flow through my mind like the earliest picture machines in a penny arcade. I see myself so young. around four and my hair is wound tight in pigtails. I come from a large family and I see my older brother, my mother, and two sisters climbing into the car. It is so hot and the air is thick with humidity, I remember the burning from the vinyl seats in the car. We are on our way to visit our great grandmother and her sisters, our great aunts. Great grandmother lived in a nice home and I do not know how old it was, but to us children it seemed big. We loved going there to see them, but hated

Little Girl Ghost
30 May 2016 | May 2016
When my wife and I bought our first house, an old style built in the 50’s, almost every night we heard what sounded like light footsteps running down the upstairs hallway. My wife mentioned it to one of the neighbors and they said it was probably just birds on the roof. We live in a rural area so for a time that answer made sense so we basically got used to it and eventually ignored it. Later our first son was born, and when he was just a toddler he would balance all of his toys on top of other toys and could make them spin without them falling over. It was the strangest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. When he was two-to-three we would hear him talking

The Lost Ring and Ghostly Pranks
27 May 2016 | May 2016
My tour group trailed behind me as we navigated the crowded streets of the French Quarter, New Orleans’ oldest neighborhood. Night had since fallen and the city had come alive: the haunting sounds of a harpsichord sliced through the booming laughter of tourists and the seductive notes of jazz. I picked my way through the groups of people loitering on the street, listening as one my group members regaled me with a paranormal experience. “What’s one of the weirdest ghost stories you’ve heard?” she asked. “There’s this one particular story that’s spine-tingling,” I said, gathering the group as we neared our next location. “I can take you there at the end of the tour.” “Oh, great!” she said, nodding enthusiastically. A few other guests heard my offer and asked to

The Lady in the Cemetery
25 May 2016 | May 2016
I have been in the funeral business for over forty years. I’ve seen, heard and experienced all kinds of things in funeral homes. Cemeteries are filled with stories of the supernatural. But one event really stands out to me. There are many country, as well as church cemeteries. One such cemetery in particular is Old Macedonia Church cemetery. The cemetery is rather small and surrounded by a chain fence with entrance gates on only one side, located about a football field length behind the church. Most of the markers are uprights and too small for anyone to hide behind. I had a funeral there in the adjoining church with the committal to follow immediately afterward. This was in the early 80’s. I had asked the family to return to the

The Fisherman’s Cottage
24 May 2016 | May 2016
It’s actually my mum’s story though she didn’t tell my sister and I until years later . When I was 12 and my sister was 15, we went to Whitby in north Yorkshire on holiday with mum and dad. We stayed in an old fisherman’s cottage. It was several hundred years old and it had 3 floors. My sister and I had the attic bedroom which had three single beds in it. In between our beds there was a big old dressing table with a large mirror. It was a lovely old cottage and I used to play in the tiny box room on the second floor as there were old bits of toys In there. Yes, I was 12, but back then kids of that age still played with

Reflecting: Old Yoakum Community Hospital, TX
23 May 2016 | May 2016
Here is something slightly different to the usual submission at My Haunted Life Too – Photographic evidence? of something paranormal at an old abandoned hospital in Texas…. Place: Old Yoakum Community Hospital Address: 303 Hubbard St., Yoakum, Texas 77995 Tour: Unguided on December 5, 2012. Stayed near perimeter, accessed only one room (trespassing damage control, for fear of ruining the general public’s opportunity to enjoy this gem.) Eerie for sure, especially in the cool winter. Nothing definitive…until I looked back at my photos (see photos below.) Potential Haunts: Nurse Laura Lynn Hights, 23, murdered on the second floor by disgruntled husband, Gregory Ray Hight, 24. (March 6, 1990) Fr. Charles W. Kram (1929-2000), a beloved local priest stricken with polio who served as hospital Chaplain for 25 years Summary: Rural

The Ghost That Followed Me Home?
20 May 2016 | May 2016
This happened to me a couple of months ago when I was working away from home. My workplace had booked me into a guesthouse to stay for the week. When I arrived there, I saw that it was an older building and at the door there was a old copper plate mounted saying that the building had been an orphanage that had opened in 1827 and closed in 1988. When I entered the building, a man greeted me and showed me old pictures of the children that used to stay there. Not much appeared to have changed inside as it still had old wooden floors and furniture. My room gave me the chills and when I fell asleep, I had dreams of children but I was one of them and

Our Pets Sensed It
19 May 2016 | May 2016
It was a rickety 1970s (maybe)-era Houston abode with thin walls and peeling paint. I saw it once (maybe twice) in the 1990s, visiting my grandfather who still lived there. My mother and her younger brother grew up in the house, who, on separate occasions, had each been the sole occupant of a particular bedroom. One day, my mom’s cat suddenly began paying much too great attention to a corner of the room, near the ceiling where the walls meet. The cat eventually began hissing intermittently with its fur standing on end, eyes locked on the corner. Mom, whose attention had been captured by now, watched in awe until the cat suddenly leaped off the bed and clamored underneath it, a seemingly fearful flight. This was the case on more

Green Eyed Monster?
17 May 2016 | May 2016
It was May 20, 1984 and my friends and I were out walking one evening. My friend, Alfie, wanted to go to the cemetery just for kicks and giggles. I guess, we wanted to get spooked. So we agreed. We went through all the graves and I found it really creepy. It felt as if someone, or something, was watching me from afar. I looked behind me and I thought I saw the shape of a person hiding behind a tree, but I thought my mind was playing tricks on me, so I didn’t say anything. My friends were gathered around a very, very old tombstone; they found it interesting because it had some markings on it. A friend and I got bored with the tombstone so we started to
